Michael Price: Wild Target

British composer Michael Price goes has spent a lot of time in the "wild" lately. Recently, romantic comedy Wild Child, featuring a score by Price, premiered world-wide, and now the busy composer has completed the score for Wild Target, an action thriller directed by Jonathan Lynn (My Cousin Vinny, The Whole Nine Yards, The Distinguished Gentleman). The film stars Bill Nighy, Emily Blunt, Rupert Grint and Rupert Everett and is produced by UK's Magic Light Pictures and Matador Pictures. Michael Price is a versatile composer who has also assisted David Arnold on several of his scores and worked as a music editor on films such as the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Children of Men.

Thomas Newman: The Debt

British director John Madden's upcoming film, The Debt, will get an original score by Thomas Newman. The dark drama, which stars Sam Worthington, Helen Mirren and Tom Wilkinson, tells the story about a Nazi war criminal who is pursued by a group of agents. Just like another film Newman has been in involved in recently, Brothers, The Debt is a US remake of an award-winning foreign film. Brothers, remade by Jim Sheridan, was originally a Danish film by Susanne Bier, and The Debt a film from Israel directed by Assaf Bernstein in 2007. Miramax should release The Debt some time next year. Thomas Newman is also doing the music for Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang.

Jonathan Goldsmith: Casino Jack

Casino Jack, George Hickenlooper's upcoming thriller starring Kevin Spacey and Hayden Christensen, gets an original score by Jonathan Goldsmith, a composer who is best known for his intimate score to Sarah Polley's Oscar-nominated Away from Her. Casino Jack, also known as Bagman, tells the true story of American lobbyist, Jack Abramoff, who was sentenced to prison after his fraudulent dealings with Indian casinos. Film will premiere some time next year. According to Evolution Music Partners, Goldsmith also recently finished the score for Stephen Kay's thriller Cell 213, starring Bruce Greenwood.

Abel Korzeniowski: A Single Man

Polish composer Abel Korzeniowski, whose current minimalist score for the animated sci-fi epic Battle for Terra has received a lot of praise, is doing the music for A Single Man, a drama based on the short story by Christopher Isherwood, starring Colin Firth and Julianne Moore. Tom Ford makes his feature film directing debut with this film. Korzeniowski is also scoring Tickling Leo, an indie feature directed by Jeremy Davidson and produced by Mary Stuart Masterson.

Henry Jackman: Gulliver's Travels

According to a recent update of Monsters vs Aliens composer Henry Jackman's filmography at the Gorfaine-Schwartz Agency web site, Jackman is attached to the new big screen adaptation of fantasy adventure classic Gulliver's Travels, starring Jack Black, Emily Blunt and Billy Connolly. The film is directed by Monsters vs Aliens director Rob Letterman. Henry Jackman is one of the latest Hans Zimmer team members to break out as a composer in his own right, after serving as an additiona music composer on projects such as The Da Vinci Code, The Simpsons Movie and two Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Gulliver's Travels is scheduled to premiere on June 4 next year.

Hans Zimmer: Mars Needs Moms!

Hans Zimmer has been attached to a new Walt Disney sci-fi picture directed by Simon Wells, for whom Zimmer previously scored The Prince of Egypt. The title of the film is Mars Needs Moms! and it's based on a novel by Berkeley Breathed, telling the story about a young boy who embarks on a space journey to rescue his mom after she was kidnapped by martians. Co-producing the movie is Robert Zemeckis' ImageMovers, and the film will be shot using performance-capture technology. Zimmer's other upcoming projects include Rango for director Gore Verbinski and Sherlock Holmes for Guy Ritchie.

Gabriel Yared: Coco Chanel and Igor Stravinsky

Dutch director Jan Kounen's upcoming account of the romance between legendary fashion designer Coco Chanel and composer Igor Stravinsky, taking place in Paris efter Stravinsky's infamous premiere of 'The Rite of Spring', gets an original score composed by Gabriel Yared (The English Patient, Cold Mountain, The Life of Others). Anna Mouglalis portrays Coco Chanel and Mads Mikkelsen is doing the Stravinsky part in the film which is geared towards a Cannes 2010 premiere. Yared is also doing the music for a film called L'élegance du hérisson. Furthermore, the composer will premiere his new concert work Eternity, for soprano and orchestra, at the Cannes Film Festival on May 24. Commissioned by France Musique and the SACEM, this composition is based on a poem by Emily Dickinson and is dedicated to the memory of Anthony Minghella.

Didier Lean Rachou: Powder Blue

Green Dragon director Tim Linh Bui's new film Powder Blue, starring Jessica Biel, Forest Whitaker, Ray Liotta and Patrick Swayze, has received an original score by Didier Lean Rachou. He was called in very late in the process to replace most of the existing score with an edgy, modern approach. Rachou's previous credits include Aquaman: Mercy Reef, How To Rob a Bank and several episodes of Sex and the City. Recently, he also scored a Lionsgate film called High Hopes, starring Jason Mewes, Lacey Chabert, Andy Dick and David Faustino. Currently, Didier has just begun scoring his third season of the TV series Storm Chasers for the Discovery Channel.

Thomas Newman: Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang

According to a press release from Universal Pictures and Working Title, a sequel to the 2005 family movie Nanny McPhee will begin principal photography early next month and a composer has already been chosen for the project: Thomas Newman. The first film was scored by Patrick Doyle. Emma Thompson returns to the role of the magical nanny in the sequel, which is called Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang. Susanna White, who directed acclaimed UK miniseries Jane Eyre (scored by Rob Lane), helms the film which will co-star Maggie Gyllenhaal and Maggie Smith. Wall-E composer Thomas Newman is also doing the music for Brothers, the remake of the Danish hit movie.

John Frizzell: Legion

John Frizzell is doing the score for Legion, an apocalyptic action flick starring Dennis Quaid, Paul Bettany, Kevin Durand, Doug Jones and Kate Walsh. The composer, who is best known for his big orchestral scores for Alien: Resurrection and Dante's Peak as well as the quirkier Office Space, has scored a lot of dark subjects lately, including Evil Angel, The Lodger and 100 Feet. Legion is directed by Scott Charles Stewart and produced by David Lancaster and Michel Litvak for release in January 2010 by Screen Gems. The story is about about a group of people who, after a biblical apocalypse, discover that a young woman is pregnant with the messiah.

Ilan Eshkeri: Centurion

Ilan Eshkeri is attached to score Neil Marshall's upcoming action adventure Centurion, starring Dominic West and Olga Kurylenko. The historic epic, which takes place in Britain, A.D. 117, tells the story about Roman legionnaires who fight for their lives behind enemy lines. Eshkeri, who has penned a number of epic scores including Stardust, is also doing the music for From Time to Time, Ninja Assassin and Kick-Ass. Director Neil Marshall has previously worked with composers Mark Thomas (Dog Soldiers), David Julyan (The Descent) and Tyler Bates (Doomsday).

John Powell: How to Train Your Dragon

Dreamworks Animation has confirmed to Upcoming Film Scores that John Powell will score How to Train Your Dragon, the studio's film version of the Cressida Cowell children's book. Powell, whose other scores for Dreamworks include Kung Fu Panda (co-scored with Hans Zimmer) and the first Shrek movie (co-scored with Harry Gregson-Williams), is frequently hired for animation: also coming up is Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs and his other recent credits include Disney's Bolt and Fox's Horton Hears a Who. How to Train Your Dragon, where a Viking tries to make his loser dragon a big hero, is scheduled to come out in theatres in March 2010.

Hans Zimmer: Sherlock Holmes

Guy Ritchie's much anticipated Sherlock Holmes, starring Robert Downey Jr. as the title character and Jude Law as his sidekick Dr. Watson, will be scored by Hans Zimmer. The film has just been added to the composer's official filmography at the Gorfaine-Schwartz Agency web site. Produced by Joel Silver and distributed by Warner Bros beginning on December 25, the film is of course based on the Arthur Conan Doyle characters but is said to re-introduce the world-famous sleuth as more of a martial arts wielding crime fighter than the somewhat laid-back Holmes we're used to. Other cast members include Rachel McAdams, Mark Strong and Kelly Reilly.

Alexandre Desplat: New Moon

New Moon, the upcoming sequel to last year's massive hit Twilight, gets an original score by French composer Alexandre Desplat. The assignment of the Curious Case of Benjamin Button composer has been confirmed to Upcoming Film Scores by Desplat's manager. This means that Carter Burwell, whose 'Bella's Lullaby' became an immediate success with Twilight fans, does not return to the sequel. The reason is that New Moon director Chris Weitz already has an ongoing working relationship with Desplat who scored his fantasy epic The Golden Compass. Desplat's other previous films include The Queen, Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium and Lust, Caution. The Twilight Saga: New Moon will hit theatres on November 20.

Ryan Shore: Cabin Fever 2 - Spring Fever

Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer composer Ryan Shore is doing the original score for Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever, the sequel to the 2002 horror film directed by Eli Roth and scored by Nathan Barr. The new film is directed by Ti West whose independent horror credits include The Roost and Trigger Man, both featuring scores by Jeff Grace. Cabin Fever 2 is produced by Tonic Films and should come out later this year. Cast members include Rider Strong, Michael Bowen, Giuseppe Andrews and Noah Segan. Ryan Shore has scored several horror films before, including Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer, The Girl Next Door and Headspace.

Christian Henson: Malice in Wonderland

Christian Henson, who recently wrote the score for The Secret of Moonacre (available on MovieScore Media), is doing the music for Malice in Wonderland, a modern take on the classic Lewis Carroll novel taking place in the North East of England. Maggie Grace, Nathaniel Parker and Danny Dyer stars in the film which is directed by Simon Fellows (Until Death, Second in Command). Henson is also in the final stages of scoring a horror film called Triangle, directed Christopher Smith who made th 2006 cult hit Severance, also scored by Henson. Starring Melissa George, the film is set on the Atlantic Ocean where passengers on a ship experience great havoc on the open seas.

Christopher Young: Unthinkable

Director Gregor Jordan, producer Marco Weber and composer Christopher Young team up again for a new film, following the acclaimed thriller The Informers, which is awaiting its theatrical release on April 24. The new film is called Unthinkable, and it's also a psychological thriller which will feature Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Sheen, Brandon Routh, Gil Bellows, Martin Donovan and Carrie-Anne Moss. With a script that reflects USA's recent war on terrorism, the story is about an American Muslim man who claims to have nuclear bombs planted in three U.S. cities. Marco Weber has confirmed to Upcoming Film Scores that Christopher Young is doing the score for the film. His other upcoming projects include Jon Amiel's Creation and Sam Raimi's Drag Me to Hell.
